To create seamless and visually compelling composites for a fantasy feature film, ensuring all visual effects elements—CGI, live-action footage, and matte paintings—blend naturally to support the film’s storytelling and artistic vision.

Creative Process

1. Shot Analysis: We began with a breakdown of each shot’s needs—determining tracking, keying, cleanup, and integration requirements. We worked closely with the VFX supervisor and editorial team to align on vision and storytelling beats.

2. Element Integration: Using Nuke’s 2D and 3D tools, we composited multiple layers including live-action plates, digital matte paintings, FX elements (smoke, fire, particles), and 3D creatures into each shot.

3. Cleanup and Keying: Roto and digital paint teams cleaned up rigging elements and tracking markers. We performed keying using Primatte and Keylight to isolate actors and props shot on green screen.

4. Color Matching & Lighting Adjustments: Ensured every element matched the scene's natural lighting and color tone using grade nodes, relighting tools, and custom AOV setups.

5. Feedback Loops: Iterated through regular feedback sessions with the client’s VFX supervisor and updated shots based on notes, maintaining a version-controlled workflow and naming structure.

6. Final Delivery: Prepared final composites in 2K and 4K formats for both theatrical and streaming releases, complete with baked-in LUTs, grain passes, and delivery sheets.

The client praised the seamless integration and attention to detail across all sequences.
